<z>Chambers Associate Podcast</z> Interviews Rollo Baker on EBM's Success and Recruiting Strategy

Last week, Elsberg Baker & Maruri partner Rollo Baker sat down with Jennine Quiles from the Chambers Associate Podcast, to discuss the firm’s formation, success and recruiting strategy.
Rollo highlighted that in today’s legal market, sophisticated clients want valuable service and recognize when they are getting value. “Today, clients are willing to pick a boutique firm to represent them in high stake matters, because they understand the folks that start a boutique litigation only firm, they do one thing very good, which is they litigate,” Rollo Said.
On what makes the difference in how an EBM team of 6 can outperform a team of 20-plus and win, Rollo talked about what the firm looks for in an associate. “In litigation, you always have to find an edge. That's how you win. It could be a legal edge or a factual edge, or it could be finding some pressure point that the other side has that you identify and you exploit it. To find that pressure point, you have to have a team of individuals who are hungry to win, who are eager and who can identify the edge when they see it. It's not a particular trait or a particular type of person that we're looking for, it's that sort of passion and eagerness and killer instinct.”
