<z>Above the Law</z> Profiles Alexandra Sadinsky on Move From Biglaw to Elite Boutique

Elsberg Baker & Maruri partner Alex Sadinsky recently spoke with Above the Law about her move from Biglaw to a trial-focused boutique and what differentiates the experience. In the interview, Sadinsky reflects on leaving a Biglaw firm to join EBM, emphasizing that the decision was less about departing and more about finding the right environment to grow as a trial lawyer. She highlights EBM’s focus on meaningful responsibility, hands-on experience, and a clear path to partnership as key factors that made the firm feel like a true long-term fit.
As Sadinsky explains: “Leaving Wachtell wasn’t an easy decision — it’s one of the great law firms in the world, and I learned an enormous amount there. But it wasn’t about leaving something behind; it was about being intentional about what came next.” On her experience at EBM she adds, “The work is as sophisticated and high-stakes as anywhere, but the focus is on developing true trial lawyers — giving people real responsibility, real feedback, and a real path to partnership.”
She also points to EBM’s collaborative, one-office model and its impact on both client work and professional development: “There’s no distance between the people doing the work and the people shaping it. That makes the work more collaborative, more intense, and ultimately more effective.” And on mentorship, Sadinsky underscores a core principle: “The advice I come back to most is simple: care deeply about getting it right. Push yourself to understand every nuance, anticipate every question, and you’ll be ready when it matters.”
